In late 1971 a woman was photographed, wearing very little bar a few strategically placed kangaroo skins, running along the Nullarbor. The myth of the Nullarbor Nymph was born. The blonde beauty was said to live in the desert with the kangaroos. National and international media organisations flocked to the tiny town of Eucla just over the Western Australian border. The Nullarbor Nymph was eventually revealed as a hoax developed in the pub one night by a group of kangaroo shooters to get some publicity for the town and have a bit of a laugh. The nymph was a local woman the group had convinced to join in their scheme.
