The State Library holds a variety of collections that document South Australian history and heritage. Sports, audio-visual and children's collections highlight recreational pursuits of South Australians. Printed material such as newspapers, maps and virtual books illustrate South Australia's documentary heritage through word and image.
The State Library also plays an international collecting role, holding items of worldwide significance such as the largest collection of wine-related materials in the southern hemisphere and a number of unique medieval and Renaissance manuscripts.
Networking sites such as Flickr encourage the community to interact with the collections by posting or uploading their own contributions.
The State Library actively acquires contemporary South Australian materials to incorporate in future collections.
