The National Wine Centre of Australia is located in Adelaide, adjacent to the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. It was officially opened on 6 October 2001. The Centre is intended to be a facility to showcase the Australian wine industry comprising exhibitions, restaurant and function areas, retail outlet and vineyard. The building's striking form borrows from the shape of wine barrels and the skeletal appearance of grape vines in wintertime. The building materials reflect the wine industry of the past and today from the timber of traditional wine barrels to the steel of modern wine vats.
