Kadina, situated on the northern end of Yorke Peninsula is approximately 10 km inland from its closest port, Wallaroo and 148 km by road from Adelaide.
Kadina, a derivation of the Narungga name for the area "Caddy Yeena" or 'Kadiyinya' meaning Lizard Plain, was surveyed in 1861 to become the business centre of the Wallaroo-Moonta copper mining field first discovered in 1859.
Today, this mining activity no longer occurs but Kadina has maintained itself as the administrative, shopping and business centre of the Yorke Peninsula.
