Dock - south side, at Port Adelaide. In the foreground is the Northern Belle. Vessel with painted ports is the Myrtle Holme and ahead of her is the Kebroyd. Northern Belle was a wooden ship, 214 tons built in 1877 at Garmouth on Moray Firth, Scotland. In 1886 she was owned by W Whyte and others operating out of Banff. Myrtle Holme was an iron barque, 945 tons one of the Holme Shipping Line operated by the Hine Brothers out of Maryport on the north west coast of England. The Holme Line carried general cargo to Australia and wool on the return voyage. In 1887, shortly after this photograph was taken the wooden barque Kebroyd registered at Port Adelaide, sprang a leak and was run ashore at Anxious Bay, Eyre Peninsula. Refloated, she was taken to Port Adelaide for service as a hulk. These and a number of unidentified vessels are tied up on the south side of New Dock Port Adelaide. In the background through the masts and rigging can be seen two of the wool stores on Santo Parade. |
