Description : |
Portrait of G. Gosse from Mount Hamilton from the S.A. Northern Pioneers' composite, 1850-1859 (shown in position on B 6912/3). Mount Hamilton station was surveyed by John McDouall Stuart in 1859 for the Chambers Brothers and is centred on the artesian mound springs Blanche Cup and The Bubbler west of Lake Eyre South. Shortly after it is recorded as being leased to Samuel Davenport and David Power. By 1860 Peter Ferguson and William Younghusband were lease holders but were ruined by the drought of the 1860s, as were so many others. Mount Hamilton occupied 787 square miles and was stocked with sheep and cattle. Presumably G Gosse was an overseer or manager on the station, but no information about him has been located. The ruins of Mount Hamilton station are within the current Stuart Creek pastoral lease, which itself is part of Anna Creek Station. |
