Description : |
Portrait of T. Coffin from Wirrialpa from the S.A. Northern Pioneers' composite, 1850-1859 (shown in position on B 6912/4). John Howard Angas was the owner of Wirrealpa Station from 1871; he acquired it from Philip Levi after he had sustained heavy losses during the drought of the 1860s. Wirrealpa was just one of a number of stations Angas owned. Levi himself had purchased the lease from John Chambers. The station is situated on the east side of the Flinders Ranges, on the main Wilpena to Arkaroola Road, 35 kilometres east of Blinman. Today, Wirrialpa (Wirrealpa) Station is a 1,650 square kilometre, working sheep and cattle station situated on the east side of the Flinders Ranges, on the main Wilpena to Arkaroola Road, 35 kilometres east of Blinman. Now run by the Fargher family, the pastoral lease, dates back to the 1850s. The cottage was built c. 1860. According to the inscription on the S.A. Northern Pioneers composite photograph, T. Coffin was Associated with the station. |
