Description : |
Members of the Waikerie, Ramco, and Holder football team. The towns of Waikerie, Ramco and Holder on the River Murray were founded in the 1890s as communal settlements, known as village settlements. The South Australian government created the village settlements scheme in response to the economic depression that had hit South Australia and the other Australian colonies after a series of major strikes in the early 1890s and the bank crash of 1893. This football team drew members from these three early village settlements which were incorporated into the Waikerie Irrigation Area in the first decades of the twentieth century. |
