South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC) was established in April 1972 by the Labor government of Don Dunstan. The first of its kind in Australia, the Corporation aimed to stimulate and encourage the formation and continued development of a film industry in South Australia, and was involved with film research, production, marketing and distribution. In 1994 the SAFC 'ceased production to become a film support body and lead agency in South Australia for the promotion, and development of the film industry' (SAFC website: About us). SAFC's website features a 'Made in SA Showcase' which details the variety of feature film, television, multi-media and documentary productions produced in South Australia over the last three decades. Acclaimed feature films including Sunday Too Far Away (1974), Storm Boy (1976), Gallipoli (1980), Bad Boy Bubby (1992), Shine (1996), Rabbit-Proof Fence (2000), and Ten Canoes (2006) are showcased. |
