Description : |
View of some of the people and tents at the Australian Festival of Progressive Music at Myponga. The Australian Festival of Progressive Music was held at Myponga, South Australia, on the Australia Day weekend - 30 January to 1 February 1971. Estimates of crowd numbers vary - from 10,000 to 15,000. Held on a converted dairy farm, the festival was compared by Adrian Rawlins. Performers included Black Sabbath (making their first appearance in Australia), interstate acts such as Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs, Chain, Daddy Cool, and Spectrum, and numerous South Australian bands including Fraternity, War Machine, Fat Angel, and Uncle Jack. The pop festival failed to make a profit and was a 'one and only' event. Held during the period of the Vietnam War, a draft resisters' tent was set up at the festival. |
