Description : |
Glenelg Commemoration 1918 badge from a collection of World War One badges marking events, anniversaries, organizations, and appeals to raise monies. Wounded and returned soldiers and their families benefited from some of these appeals. The Gallipoli landing, Anzac Day, Armistice, Wattle Day and Violet Day are represented in the collection. Violet Day was founded as a day of remembrance for Australian soldiers killed in Gallipoli and Egypt. Souvenir badges for organizations such as the Australian Red Cross, Australian Comforts Fund and Cheer-up Society are included in this collection. Several of the badges are South Australian in origin - for example, from Port Elliott, Henley and Grange, and Hindmarsh. |
